Personalised Acupuncture Treatment in Hassocks

Katie uses acupuncture to treat a wide range of conditions including Digestive Issues, Pain and Injury, Anxiety, Depression, Migraines, Headaches, Cancer Support and Chronic Inflammation.

Katie is particularly passionate about Women’s Health and she specialises in using Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine to treat Fertility, Painful, Heavy or Irregular Periods, PMS/PMT, Endometriosis, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), Perimenopause and Menopause.

Katie practises from her private clinic in Hassocks, West Sussex, where each acupuncture session is personalised to your specific requirements and is performed in a warm and nurturing environment.

What to Expect During Your Session

Each session is conducted within Katie’s private clinic, where you will undergo a routine consultation to understand your physical health, sleep, stress levels and the reason for your visit.

Katie will then formulate a plan of acupuncture and herbs as required for you.

Patients report feeling very relaxed and calm during and after an acupuncture treatment, and can even fall asleep while on the treatment couch.

*Katie offers private one-to-one appointments and lower-cost multi-bed appointments with privacy curtains.

What does a typical acupuncture session involve?

Your first session will involve finding out about your physical health as well as your sleep, stress levels and other lifestyle factors to enable Katie to perform a thorough diagnosis. Other diagnostic methods involve observations, feeling your pulses and looking at your tongue! Katie will then formulate a plan of acupuncture and/or herbs as required for you.

Typically, for acute conditions such as acute pain, Katie will then treat you once a week until the condition resolves (acute pain often resolves after just one session!) and for more chronic conditions (for example chronic pain, hormonal issues or anxiety) Katie will aim to see you weekly to begin with, to gain momentum in the healing process and get the condition under control, and then reduce the frequency of visits as appropriate until the condition is resolved.

Most people report feeling very relaxed and calm during and after an acupuncture treatment, and can even fall asleep while on the treatment couch. Katie tries to create a very calming, warm and nurturing environment within her clinic, to enable the best possible outcomes from her treatments and to allow patients some rare time to just relax!

How does Acupuncture work?

Traditional Chinese Medicine explains that health is the result of a harmonious balance of the complementary opposites of “yin” and “yang”. Illness is said to be the consequence of an imbalance of those forces leading to energy blockages. Qi flows through meridians, or energy pathways, in the human body. These meridians correspond to different organs in the body, and are accessible through more than 400 acupuncture points on the body. Inserting needles into the appropriate points brings the energy flow back into proper alignment, thus restoring balance, and therefore health.

From a western medical perspective, Neuroscience has been suggested as a framework to explain acupuncture. Within this framework, acupuncture points are seen as places where nerves, muscles, and connective tissue can be stimulated. This stimulation increases blood flow, while at the same time triggering the activity of the body’s natural endorphins, or painkillers. This does not explain the numerous benefits of acupuncture on other health conditions such as hormonal issues, chemotherapy side effects, skin diseases, however. Many studies have shown proven benefits in using acupuncture and herbs, and the World Health Organisation (WHO) recognises acupuncture as being beneficial for a large range of conditions.

What if I am scared of needles?

Most people report feeling very relaxed and calm during and after an acupuncture treatment, and can even fall asleep while on the treatment couch. However if you are fearful of needles, Katie will ensure you are calm before she starts the treatment, and she will likely use less needles in your first session . Katie tries to create a very calming, warm and nurturing environment within her clinic, to enable the best possible outcomes from her treatments and to allow patients some rare time to just relax!
