Low Cost Acupuncture Treatments for Pain in Hassocks
Acupuncture can be used to great effect when treating pain or injury, anywhere in the body. From that stubborn ache or pain that just won’t go, to chronic lower back pain and even extremely painful chronic conditions such as Peripheral Neuropathy, Rheumatoid Arthritis or Fibromyalgia, acupuncture has the ability to reduce or completely resolve pain and promote healing, without the side effects of pain medication.
How does Acupuncture Hassocks treat pain and injury?
Katie at Acupuncture Hassocks treats musculoskeletal issues across the entire body, and fully expects her patients to get better from her treatments. Katie also uses an infrared heat lamp to add further stimulation to the needles, which not only feels very pleasurable for the patient, but it also achieves the best results since warm needles, getting right to the heart of the problem, relax muscles, fascia and tight tendons like nothing else!
Katie will also use moxabustion where necessary to aid in healing areas which are particularly stubborn, such as joint pain. Using moxa warms the area (which tends to get very cold due to constriction of movement and lack of blood flow) as well as having other beneficial properties that promote healing.
How does Acupuncture work for treating musculoskeletal pain?
Acupuncture works by stimulating nerves in muscles and other soft tissues, causing the body to release endorphins, while at the same time reducing inflammation and increasing microcirculation to improve muscle and joint stiffness.
Acupuncture can be particularly effective for treating difficult conditions such as Frozen Shoulder, Tennis Elbow, Golfer’s Elbow, or Housemaid’s knee, and patients usually feel a reduction in pain (and often a complete cessation) even after the first session.
How quickly will acupuncture reduce my pain levels?
Typically, pain and inflammation will be reduced after the first session however it may not always last, which is why multiple sessions are often required (especially for chronic conditions). This is perfectly normal and does not mean the treatment isn’t working - quite the opposite! Any initial reduction in pain indicates that acupuncture treatments will be highly likely to address the issue, so long as the correct treatment regimen is followed (acupuncture treatments are cumulative so they build on the ones before).
How many acupuncture sessions will I need to resolve my pain or injury?
For acute conditions, 1-2 sessions are often all that is required, while for more chronic conditions it may take 4-6 acupuncture sessions to really get on top of resolving the pain and inflammation.
What does Low Cost Acupuncture mean?
Acupuncture Hassocks has facilities to offer low cost ‘multibed’ acupuncture for most pain or injury treatments. There are two treatment couches with privacy curtains around each bay. Treatments are then staggered across appointment times. This means that a full treatment (40-45 mins) costs only £38. Please mention that you would like to book for multibed when making your appointment.
What if I don't like the idea of low cost multibed acupuncture?
Multibed appointments are not obligatory! Many patients prefer to have a private session, at least initially, and this is absolutely fine! Multibed is simply there as an option for those who prefer to pay less, but it is absolutely your choice whether you decide to have a multibed treatment or a private one. Private appointments for pain cost £53 for 45 minutes.

Which painful conditions does Acupuncture Hassocks treat?
Katie at Acupuncture Hassocks regularly treats patients for the following common musculoskeletal conditions:
Acupuncture for Low Back Pain
Low back pain is extremely common and affects people of all ages. It can be caused by poor lumbar support when seating, sitting down too often, weak core muscles or injury. It can also be caused by overwork and even stress, as these things can deplete our Kidney energy, causing pain and weakness in the lumbar area.
Acupuncture is an extremely effective treatment for low back pain and can treat both musculoskeletal causes or pain caused by kidney qi deficiency, or both. Patients usually feel relief from the first session.
Acupuncture for Upper Back Pain
Upper back pain is often caused by issues with the neck, lifting heavy objects, poor posture when working at a desk or on a laptop, stress or anxiety. Hunching of the shoulders (which many people do often, and unconsciously) can cause intense pain in the upper back, especially in the Trapezius muscles.
Acupuncture is an extremely effective treatment for upper back pain and patients usually feel considerable relief from the first session.
Acupuncture for Sciatica
Sciatica is a common condition which is characterised by pain in the lower back which can radiate to the buttocks and down the back or the side of the legs. It can be extremely painful and make walking, sitting or sleeping difficult, interfering with a person’s quality of life.
It is caused by compression of the sciatic nerve in the lumbar spine area, and because the sciatic nerve runs down the back of the legs all the way down to the feet, pain can be felt in all or any of these places, including the sides of the legs.
Stress is also known to contribute to flare ups of Sciatica.
Acupuncture can help relieve the pain of Sciatica, and patients usually will feel a reduction in pain from the first session, though often a few sessions are required to resolve chronic Sciatica.
Acupuncture for Piriformis Syndrome
Piriformis Syndrome has the same symptoms as Sciatica, namely pain that radiates from the buttocks down the backs and sides of the legs. The cause of the pain in the case of Piriformis Syndrome however is different to that of Sciatica in that it is caused by a tight Piriformis muscle (in the buttock) which compresses the Sciatic nerve, rather than by an issue with the lumbar spine compressing the Sciatic nerve.
Acupuncture is extremely effective at treating Piriformis Syndrome because it can get right to the root cause and effectively release the tight Piriformis muscle, relieving pressure on the sciatic nerve and thereby relieving pain in the buttocks and legs. Patients will usually feel a considerable reduction in pain from the first treatment.
Acupuncture for Neck Pain
Knee pain is a very common condition and can cause soreness, inflammation, weakness and stiffness.
Causes range from over-use (walking or running) or injury to arthritis in the knee joint. Another common cause of knee pain and stiffness is post-operative inflammation from knee replacement surgery. Whatever the cause, acupuncture can help to reduce knee pain, swelling and stiffness and patients usually notice an improvement from the first session.
Treating chronic knee pain with acupuncture can also help to manage conditions such as arthritis, often allowing for a significant delay in the requirement for knee replacement surgery.
Acupuncture for Shoulder Pain (Rotator Cuff Injuries, Bursitis, Tendonitis, Frozen Shoulder)
The shoulder is a complex structure of muscles and tendons, and as such, can cause pain and stiffness in a variety of places, resulting in pain or stiffness in the upper arm, upper back or more specific conditions such as Rotator Cuff injuries, Bursitis, Tendonitis or Frozen Shoulder.
Acupuncture can help with shoulder pain regardless of the cause, and can alleviate pain and improve movement from the first session. Because of the complex nature of the shoulder joint and surrounding muscles, tendons and Bursae however, chronic or complex shoulder issues may require 4-6 acupuncture sessions to completely resolve pain and restore movement.
Acupuncture for Hip Pain
Hip pain or stiffness can occur while walking, sitting or sleeping and can be felt deep inside the hip, often radiating to the groin. Hip pain can be caused by arthritis or simply tight muscles around the hip joint.
Fortunately, acupuncture can help with hip pain as it has the ability to get to the heart of the problem. Patients will usually feel less pain and more movement from the very first acupuncture session. Even if the cause is arthritis, acupuncture can help to loosen the muscles around the hip, relieving pain and inflammation. This can allow the condition to be managed over a number of years, delaying potential hip replacement surgery.
Acupuncture for Knee Pain
Knee pain is a very common condition and can cause soreness, inflammation, weakness and stiffness.
Causes range from over-use (walking or running) or injury to arthritis in the knee joint. Another common cause of knee pain and stiffness is post-operative inflammation from knee replacement surgery.
